Privacy Policy
Kincharts holds some of the most personal information a family has. This page explains what we collect, who can see it, where it's processed and how to delete it.
In short
- Invite-only. A Kinchart is visible only to the people its owners add.
- No ads, no selling. We don't sell personal information or use it for advertising.
- AI that doesn't train on you. Kincharts sends records to Anthropic's Claude to read and explain them. Anthropic doesn't train its models on them.
- Yours to delete. Delete a Kinchart, or your account, whenever you want.
Who we are
Kincharts is kincharts.com and the Kincharts app for iPhone and iPad. It's run by Bharat Kilaru. When this page says “we”, it means Kincharts. Questions about your information go to bkkilaru@gmail.com.
What we collect
When you sign in:
- Your name, and the email address or phone number you sign in with.
- If you sign in with Google or Apple, the name and email address they share with us. Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your own.
- A profile photo, if you add one.
What you and others add to a Kinchart:
- The person's name, birth date, summary, and photo or illustrated portrait.
- Files you upload, such as lab reports, imaging, visit notes and photos of paperwork, and the results, dates and medications read from them.
- Notes, questions for the doctor and their answers, and conversations with Kincharts AI.
- Who is on the Kinchart and their role, and the email addresses of people invited to it.
What we collect automatically:
- Who has a Kinchart open right now, so members can see who else is looking.
- Standard request logs kept by our hosting provider, such as IP address, device and browser type, and the pages requested.
- The cookies that keep you signed in. Kincharts doesn't use analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Records about someone else
A Kinchart is usually about someone other than you, such as a parent or a child, who may not have an account. Add their records only when you have the right to: because they asked you to or agreed, or because you're their caregiver or legal guardian. If you're the person a Kinchart describes and want something changed or removed, ask its owners or write to bkkilaru@gmail.com.
How we use it
- To run Kincharts: showing each Kinchart to its members, drawing results as trends, and sending sign-in codes and invitations.
- To read and explain records: Kincharts AI reads uploaded files and chart content to pull out results, write plain-language explanations and answer the questions members ask.
- To keep Kincharts secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To contact you about your account or about changes to Kincharts.
We don't sell or rent personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
AI and your records
Kincharts AI is built on Claude, made by Anthropic. When it reads a record or answers a question, the files and chart content it needs are sent to Anthropic's API. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic uses them only to produce the response, may keep them for a limited time for safety monitoring, and doesn't use them to train its models. AI explanations can be wrong, so check anything important against the original record and with the care team.
Who can see a Kinchart
- Only its members. Owners invite people and choose their role: owners manage people, editors add records and record answers, and viewers read, leave notes and ask questions.
- Members see each other's names and photos, and the email address or phone number each person uses.
- Notes, answers and uploads show who added them.
- Uploaded files are stored privately and open only through short-lived links for members.
- If you aren't a member, Kincharts won't confirm that a Kinchart exists.
- We can open a Kinchart when we need to, to support its members, fix a problem, keep Kincharts secure or comply with the law.
Companies that help run Kincharts
These companies process information on our behalf, only to run Kincharts:
- Clerk for sign-in and accounts, including sending sign-in codes by email and text message.
- Vercel for hosting and file storage.
- Neon for the database.
- Anthropic for the Claude models behind Kincharts AI.
- Google and Apple for sign-in, if you choose them.
Kincharts stores information in the United States. We may also share information when the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of Kincharts, in which case this policy keeps applying to it.
Keeping and deleting
- A Kinchart and everything in it stays until an owner deletes it. Deleting a Kinchart removes its records, files, notes and conversations.
- Editors can delete individual records and results, and you can delete your own notes.
- You can delete your account on the Account page. You're removed from every Kinchart. Where you're the only owner, ownership passes to the longest-standing editor, or viewer if there are no editors, and a Kinchart with nobody else on it is deleted with its records. Notes you posted stay on the Kinchart under your name, so the family keeps its history.
- Deleted information can stay in short-term backups and logs for a limited time before it's overwritten.
Security
Kincharts uses encrypted connections throughout, stores files privately, and checks membership and role on every request. Our providers encrypt the data they store. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects your information, we'll tell you.
Health information and HIPAA
Kincharts isn't a doctor, hospital, insurer or other HIPAA covered entity, and it doesn't work on behalf of one. It's a tool families use to keep records they already have, so HIPAA doesn't apply to it. We still treat everything in a Kinchart as sensitive health information and handle it as this page describes.
Children
You need to be 18 or older to create an account. A Kinchart can be about a child when a parent or guardian keeps it. We don't knowingly let children under 13 create accounts; if you think one has, tell us and we'll delete it.
Your choices
- Change your name and photo, and edit or delete what you've added, in Kincharts.
- Leave a Kinchart, or delete your account, at any time.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it, at bkkilaru@gmail.com.
Depending on where you live, such as California, the EU or the UK, you may have further rights over your information. We honor these requests wherever you live.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. If a change matters, such as a new use of your information, we'll tell you by email or in Kincharts before it takes effect.
